“The American spirit wears no political label. In service to others and yes, in sacrifice for our country, there are no Republicans; there are no Democrats; there are only Americans.” -Senator John Kerry I believe very much in this. I think more and more every day the American people need to put aside political differences and focus on coming together as a nation like we once were. The WW2 generation was “The greatest generation” because they banded together to achieve the victory, safety, and unity of our nation. We look like fools to the rest of the world, arguing and fighting amongst ourselves instead of turning towards tomorrow as a unified front and continuing to lead the world into the future, especially during the War on Terror and any upcoming confrontations. I think it’s sad that I “miss” the old days when America was all grand and wondrous, and I didn’t even live through it. I’m not saying to discard your political views and ideologies, I’m just saying that people need to realize there are more important things to deal with than arguing amongst ourselves. Compromise and dedication is the key to the future, and to me it seems we don’t have enough of either one in the general public. This being said, I urge each and every one of you that read this note to challenge yourselves and do the best you can to make a difference. It doesn’t matter if it’s a difference in one person’s life or a difference in a thousand people’s lives, just strive to be the change you wish to see in the world, as Gandhi put it. Try to be that person, that role model that someone looks up to. Try to be that person that gets mentioned in passing as “The person that helped me once” and never give up on yourselves. All of us really are the future of America, let’s do our part to make it great like it once was. And please share this message with others.
